This zippy tropical pineapple smoothie is just that. Zippy and tropical feeling. It’s tart with some kick from the ginger and jalapeno, but sweet enough from the banana. The sunny color adds to the cheerfulness, but even if you choose to add in kale or cilantro, you’ll still have that tropical taste and feeling. It’s my new favorite smoothie at the moment and Mark loves it too.
Some Health Benefits of Pineapple
- The bromelain in pineapple helps speed up the break down of food. This helps with bloating or slow digestion. It also helps burn fat and tone the belly over time.
- Pineapple is a highly cleansing and detoxifying fruit for the body, which is amazing. However, this is a reason why pineapple may feel irritable for some. I had a hard time myself with pineapple for a few years while I was dealing with gut issues. Once I continually cleansed my body though, the irritation went away. Unripe pineapples are hard to eat regardless, so eat them ripe. Juicing pineapples is also a great place to start for a sensitive gut.
How To tell if a pineapple is ripe?
A ripe pineapple will feel slightly soft when you squeeze it. It turns more yellow (from green) as it ripens. A heavier pineapple usually means it’s juicier. You can also smell the sweetness at the bottom of the pineapple when it is ripe. The bottom 2/3 of the pineapple is the sweetest. If you have trouble eating pineapple, try just eating the bottom 2/3 of a RIPE pineapple in small amounts to begin with. The core is amazing to juice or blend in a smoothie, but not one to eat. It’s also tough and more fibrous, so if super sensitive, skip blending the core for now.
