This anti-inflammatory turmeric ginger smoothie tastes like a spicy warm summer. You get some zip from the ginger, a warm earthy taste from the turmeric and the additions of pineapple and mango taste like summer. There is also aloe in this smoothie which will get overtaken by the rest of the flavors, but you know that the miracle worker is in there. Drink it for breakfast or as an afternoon pick-me-up and reap the anti-inflammatory healing benefits with this drink.
Where does inflammation come from?
Inflammation stems from two things – Injury or Invaders/Pathogens. So whether you have gut inflammation, eye inflammation, brain inflammation, sinus inflammation, liver inflammation or one of the many other types, they are stemming from an injury or pathogens that are wreaking havoc on your health.
I struggled with gut and brain inflammation for a couple of years so I am always eager to take anything that helps kill off pathogens, thus reducing inflammation. Any anti-inflammatory foods, spices, or supplements, sign me up. Plus, besides being anti-inflammatory, you are also getting a host of other healing benefits with them.

The two forms of ginger I use:
- Fresh Ginger- My favorite way. I add organic ginger chunks to smoothies and grate it in my morning lemon water many days.
- Gaia Ginger Liquid Capsules – When you don’t like the taste of ginger or know you won’t be using enough raw ginger, this is a great substitute. It’s great to have on hand if you are feeling in any kind of pain or feel super nauseous. I will also use these as a digestive aid sometimes when I’m eating a heavier (not as healthy) meal out. These are great to travel with too since it’s like a 10 in 1 supplement.
Aloe Vera
A fresh aloe vera leaf is another ancient remedy for healing all kinds of things.
Some of the benefits of fresh aloe:
- Digestive Aid (helps with elimination)

It is known to purify the blood, reduce inflammation, ease arthritis pain, prevent kidney stones, lower high cholesterol, prevent Candida, boost physical endurance, benefit cardiovascular health, and protect the body from oxidative stress.

The forms of aloe I recommend:
- I prefer a whole aloe vera leaf. It’s generally inexpensive if you can find it at the grocery store. I cut a 2″ chunk off and slice the peel off with a knife and throw the inside gel chunk in the blender with smoothies.
- For awhile I was buying aloe juices. It’s a great substitute if you don’t have access to an aloe vera leaf or are traveling. Aloe Gel Juice OR Aloe Juice
Anti-inflammatory turmeric ginger smoothie recipe
Serves 2
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups of coconut water
- 1 tsp of turmeric powder
- 2″ piece of fresh aloe vera
- 1 inch chuck of fresh ginger
- 2 cups of pineapple
- 2 cups of frozen mango OR 1 cup of frozen mango with 1 cup of frozen banana for a sweeter smoothie
Instructions
Add all of the ingredients to a high speed blender and blend until smooth.
Riane’s Tidbits:
- If you don’t have all of the ingredients, it is more than OK. If you don’t have aloe vera on hand, skip it. You are still getting plenty of benefits in this smoothie. Work with what you have access to.
- Use a few ice cubes if all of your fruit is fresh and not frozen and you want a colder, thicker smoothie.
- Ginger gives this smoothie a big zip. If you are not sure about the taste of ginger, start with 1/2″ chunk. Taste it and blend in the other 1/2″ if you can handle more spice.
- The frozen banana version helps hide the turmeric, ginger taste a little more if you want the health benefits without as much turmeric ginger taste.
- I highly recommend coconut water over water in this recipe, especially if you are not using the banana.
- Make sure your pineapple is ripe. A ripe pineapple will feel slightly soft when you squeeze it. It turns more yellow (from green) as it ripens. A heavier pineapple usually means it’s juicier. You can also smell the sweetness at the bottom of the pineapple when it is ripe. The bottom 2/3 of the pineapple is the sweetest. If you have trouble eating pineapple, try just eating the bottom 2/3 of a RIPE pineapple, and see if that helps.
