Strawberry Banana “Chocolate” Nice Cream

August 3, 2025

Strawberry Banana Chocolate Nice Cream
You can see that a frozen banana base melts like original thing! .. or that I need to be a bit faster at taking a picture of ice cream.

The next time you feel like a healthier chocolate ice cream, try this strawberry banana “chocolate” nice cream out! You get the chocolate taste from a lightly roasted carob powder. Carob powder is a great caffeine-free substitute for cacao powder that does not contain the toxic theobromine in it. I personally enjoy my dark chocolate on occasion, but this is one way I can get a chocolatey fix without having cacao in it. While carob powder does not taste exactly like cacao powder, it is very similar if you buy one that is lightly roasted. The other two ingredients in this recipe? Banana and strawberry. That’s it! Quick, easy, and delicious.

What Is Nice Cream?

  • Nice cream is blended frozen banana. Frozen banana creates a great custard-like creamy consistency used as a healthy ice cream base.
  • Bananas that have ripened enough to have brown speckles on the peel are the best to freeze. They make ice cream & everything else sweeter as opposed to a banana with zero brown spots. All you need to do is peel your bananas prior to putting them in a freezer bag.
  • Put your bananas in the freezer at least a day before you make nice cream as you want them fully frozen. I like to freeze a bunch of bananas at a time so that I have them ready the majority of the time.

Strawberry Banana “Chocolate” Nice Cream

Ingredients

Makes 1 serving

2 frozen bananas – Put your bananas in the freezer for a day or more prior

4 larger frozen or fresh strawberries – I suggest frozen if you have them, but fresh is easier on an old blender

1 TBSP carob powder

Instructions

  1. Slice your frozen bananas. If you are using both frozen bananas and frozen strawberries and you have an older or less powerful blender, let the sliced bananas sit out for 1-2 minutes to slightly soften. Don’t let them sit too long though as the frozen consistency is important for ice cream. Otherwise it will turn into a shake, although it will still be delicious.
  2. Add the bananas, strawberries, and carob powder to the blender without any liquid. If you are using a less powerful blender, add the fresh strawberries first if using fresh strawberries, otherwise add the slightly softened frozen banana first and then the frozen strawberries. The softest fruit on the bottom.
  3. Blend it all together until you get that creamy, thick consistency. I use the tamper that comes with the Vitamix to help mix it along when I’m using all frozen ingredients. ENJOY!
