This weeks 10 things 8/16:
- I’m on a golden milk kick right now as I’m trying to get more of the anti-inflammatory turmeric in. It’s such an easy and enjoyable way to get it in besides taking a supplement, which I still also take. I find value in both. This is the recipe from the blog that I’m using. I’m not having maple syrup yet so I’m using coconut milk in place of almond milk as coconut is a bit sweeter along with a tiny amount of monk fruit powder. Maple syrup tastes best though. Another great option would be to blend a Medjool date in for the sweetness. You’ve got options. 🙂
- Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups almond milk, freshly homemade makes this extra good (
- 1 tsp ground turmeric
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp Ceylon cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp cardamom
- pinch black pepper
- 1 TBSP maple syrup
- Method:
- Add everything to a blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a small saucepan on the stovetop and simmer for 5-7 minutes. Enjoy!
- I’m also making this coconut turmeric ginger warming broth lately. It’s such a comforting cup!
- Serves 2 large servings
- Ingredients:
- 1 quart of vegetable broth – I prefer the Bonafide brand.
- 2″ chunk of fresh ginger, skin removed and super finely sliced strips
- 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
- 1/4 tsp cayenne
- 1/8 tsp fresh ground pepper
- 1/2-1 can of coconut milk, start with 1/2 can and then stir in more depending on taste preference
- juice of 1/2 – 1 lemon
- Instructions:
- Add the vegetable broth, sliced ginger, ground turmeric, cayenne, and ground pepper to a pot on the stove. Bring to just short of a boil and then simmer on medium heat for 10 minutes. Add in the coconut milk and simmer a few more minutes. Taste and see how much lemon juice you want to add in. I start with 1/2 lemon, taste it and then decide if I want a second 1/2 squeezed in. Pour in a mug and enjoy!
- Mark stumbled on this Masala Mama Boom Boom curry sauce at Whole Foods (they sell it elsewhere too) and I made us a veggie forward meal with it. There is nothing like sauce to get you to eat more veggies, am I right. Masala Mama also has other sauces: coconut curry, almond korma, Va-Va Voom Vindaloom, and Cashew Masala. I’m excited to try out another one next. It’s much healthier than takeout Indian and gives our taste-buds some Indian spices which Mark and I love. It’s pricier than making your own sauce, but worth it sometimes. It’s still only $5-6 at Whole Foods. It’s a bit pricier on Amazon.
- My favorite thing I made this past week is a homemade chocolate bar. I used caffeine-free carob powder in place of cacao powder to make it chocolate free for me and it still tasted amazing. If you like carob, you will absolutely love this easy and quick recipe. And if you prefer cacao, you can use that too!
- The new season of Sullivan’s Crossing is now on Netflix so you know I’m excited about that. Mark is watching it with me so I’m only one episode in at the moment since we have not had time, but I’m looking forward to watching the rest. It’s my favorite Netflix show I’ve watched to date I think? It’s just a feel-good show which is my favorite type of show. I also really liked an old series called Another Self and Virgin River of course. I don’t watch a ton of TV most of the year, so it’s a treat when I watch it. Come wintertime though, that TV is on with The Holiday on repeat and Hallmark Christmas movies in the background. Ha.
- You can save 10% off on Vimergy’s Propolis this month with code HERHEALTHYSTYLE10. Propolis is a potent one for the immune system and something I’m taking daily right now. It’s amazing for lowering Candida overgrowth and disrupting and inhibiting it’s biofilms. Even if you don’t take it daily, it’s a great one to keep on hand when you’re fighting a bug. If it’s your first time ordering from VIMERGY all together, use this link for 20% off your entire first purchase.
- The two supplements I’ve come to rely on for cycle support to keep me around a 28 day cycle are Flow Balance and Liver Rescue. I take one dropperful of each every morning all month long. Sometimes I’ll take extra around my period, but for the most part, it’s once a day. My cycles were always consistent when I traveled less, but come last summer they started to become all over the place with me being on the go so often. I started to become faithful with these two and after two months or so they really helped and continue to help. Just sharing incase you are in the same boat as I was. It’s worth peaking at to see if they are for you. You might like this mood juice around that time of the month too.
- This week’s Quince Picks: Free shipping, 365 day returns, and quality products for amazing prices is why I shop Quince often. Their trench coats are beautiful, extremely well made, and the price is shocking for their quality. They have this short trench, this long trench, and this mid-length trench without the buttons. They all come in 3 different colors, some 4. Even though I have a tall torso and long arms, I take an XS in most of the Quince tops and jackets. Every time I size up thinking it will run small, I usually exchange it. Their sizing runs fairly generous for the most part.
- I’ve been waiting for these leopard barrel jeans to go 50% off and they finally are. They are such a cute pair for Fall!
