Cleansing Green Pineapple Smoothie

July 18, 2024

Cleansing Green Pineapple Smoothie - Detoxifying Smoothie Recipe

I’ve been having this cleansing green pineapple smoothie fairly often for breakfast this past week. All of the components play a role in cleansing, but the two I want to point out are pineapple and flaxseeds. Pineapple is a highly cleansing and detoxifying fruit and flaxseeds (one I’ve been including more often lately) are full of fiber and help improve digestion & elimination.

SOME HEALTH BENEFITS OF PINEAPPLE

  • The bromelain in pineapple helps speed up the break down of food. This helps with bloating or slow digestion. It also helps burn fat and tone the belly over time.
  • Pineapple is a highly cleansing and detoxifying fruit for the body, which is amazing. However, this is a reason why pineapple may feel irritable for some. I had a hard time myself with pineapple for a few years while I was dealing with gut issues. Once I continually cleansed my body though, the irritation went away. Unripe pineapples are hard to eat regardless, so eat them ripe. Juicing pineapples is also a great place to start for a sensitive gut.

HOW TO TELL IF A PINEAPPLE IS RIPE?

A ripe pineapple will feel slightly soft when you squeeze it. It turns more yellow (from green) as it ripens. A heavier pineapple usually means it’s juicier. You can also smell the sweetness at the bottom of the pineapple when it is ripe. The bottom 2/3 of the pineapple is the sweetest. If you have trouble eating pineapple, try just eating the bottom 2/3 of a RIPE pineapple in small amounts to begin with. The core is amazing to juice or blend in a smoothie, but not one to eat. It’s also tough and more fibrous. If really sensitive, you could skip blending the core for now.

Cleansing Green Pineapple Smoothie

2 large breakfast servings. If it’s just you drinking it, you can still make the whole batch and save the second portion for breakfast the next day. Just shake it up well before you drink it.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 large handfuls of curly kale
  • 1/2-1 large cucumber
  • 2” ginger
  • 2 TBSP ground flaxseed
  • 1 peeled lime
  • 2 tsp spirulina powder – I buy both Vimergy (no refrigeration needed) and Nutrex (refrigeration needed)
  • 1 jalapeño, optional, but I usually add it – I like the zip and spicy peppers are cleansing
  • 3/4 pineapple or about 4 cups

Method

Add everything to a large highspeed blender and blend until smooth. Since there isn’t any banana, it will be a more liquid-like than thick.
