10 things. 7/17

July 16, 2025

10 things. 717
  1. Who has watched Sullivan’s Crossing on Netflix!? Mark actually found it for us. I didn’t even want to watch it since I’d rather not get sucked into a series during summer. Well, I’m so glad he pressed play! I was hooked with the intro music! Ha. It’s just a feel good cozy show about a girl who is a top neurosurgeon in Boston until legal issues arise. She winds up going back to her childhood home, a scenic campground in Nova Scotia, by her estranged father. I loved every bit of the two seasons we watched. The third season is coming out this August. If you liked Virgin River, definitely check it out. Sullivan’s Crossing might be my favorite Netflix series I’ve watched to date.
  2. I grabbed this corvo electric kettle when it came back in stock last month and it’s one of my best purchases this year. I put myself on the waitlist twice prior and when it came back in stock, I talked myself out of it. I didn’t want to need another device besides my tea kettle or spend the $ on it. The thing is, I constantly heat up water for hot lemon water, tea, and other various concoctions. While the tea kettle works perfectly and I still use it for larger jars of tea each day, the electric kettle makes all of my 1-2 cup drinks extra quick. I don’t have to pay attention to it or grab it off the burner at just the right time while I’m doing other various things. You set it to your desired temperature and press start. There are tons of features on it and you can hook it up to WIFI, but I am old school. I just use the start and stop. It’s the top rated kettle on many consumer review sites. Anyways, it’s a small thing that makes my days a little more delightful. I bought it on Quince so I could get the $20 credit.
  3. I’ve added warm/hot lemon water back into my morning again besides my 32 oz room temp filtered water with lemon and minerals added in. I start with the hot water and then drink the room temp water. Yes, I drink a ton of liquid in the morning. Ha.
    • Cool or Room Temperature Water is better for optimal hydration.
    • Warm or Hot Water promotes better digestion.
    • Ice Cold Drinks are not great for digestion, but I still drink really cold smoothies and drinks in the summer when it sounds good to me. They still serve their purpose! When I don’t want a cold smoothie, but I’ve added frozen fruit to it, I let it sit out awhile before having it.
  4. One of my repeat tea drinks lately – I generally have this one in the morning or at night before bed:
    • roasted dandelion teabag – has an earthy toasty flavor that seems like it has a hint of vanilla in it, but it doesn’t
    • small bit of chaga – discount code RIANES5
    • a good few shakes of Ceylon cinnamon – I buy the large bag and refill the glass jars
    • small shake of ground clove
    • steep all of the above in water for 5-7 minutes and then splash in some homemade almond milk (almonds and water). It feels like a warm hug.
  5. Cleaner Coffee & Matcha options:
    • Decaf Mushroom Cognition Coffee
    • Life Boost Dark Roast – all the Life Boost coffees are Spring water washed, Sun Dried, Small Batch Roasted, 3rd party tested for mycotoxins, heavy metals, pesticides + 450 other toxins, Mountain Shade Grown, Fairly Traded, Single Origin, 100% Arabica Bean
    • Four Sigmatic Mushroom Coffees that come in decaf and regular
    • Anthony’s Instant Roasted Chicory coffee alternative – easily dissolves in hot water and iced cold “coffee” drinks. I use two heaping spoonful’s to get it to taste how I want it too, but I really enjoy it. The serving size says 1 tsp….
    • Pique Matcha for a quality matcha option – speaking of Pique, for the non-caffeine choices, checkout their Ginger Digestion Elixir and Spearmint Herbal Tea. They are much stronger and more potent than a teabag and great for vacations, meals out, etc. Pricier, but I really enjoy them when I get them.
  6. Did you know taste buds have an average lifespan of around two weeks?! So if you think you could never eat a certain way or could never like a certain food/taste even though you wish you could, there is hope! Ha. If there is a will, there is a way. It starts with changing what we are eating. Right now I’m eating less sweet, high fiber fruit like papaya, raspberries, and wild blueberries. Well, with the exception of sweet Medjool dates since they are great at ridding yeast, parasites, bad bacteria, and/or mold in the gut. Source: Medical Medium. While eating less naturally sweet foods, I’m also eating more vegetables and greens. Anyhoo, because of this, the less sweet fruits taste that much sweeter to me and things like homemade almond milk (with just almonds and water) taste sweeter too. I’m even amazed at how quickly taste buds can change!
  7. I made this nourishing mushroom broth soup to have for dinner a few nights this past week.
  8. I’m making these Buddha Bowls for my parents tomorrow night with this baked chili tahini cauliflower. I prep everything I can make in advance, but make the quinoa and cauliflower last minute so that there are warm elements to the bowls too. I’ll probably add roasted red cabbage to the mix.
  9. I’m living in this easy breezy casual floral dress. I would say it’s for small chests only due to the material and how it’s cut. It’s on sale right now with the Nordstrom Anniversary event.
  10. Do you ever have a problem with your dishwasher not releasing the tablet and wind up with a load that didn’t clean? I learned the best tip by watching my girlfriend start her dishwasher. She just threw the tablet on the bottom of the dishwasher before pressing start; she didn’t put it in the designated space. Genius. Now I do the same and don’t ever have a load of dishes that I have to run twice.
