Morning Lemon Water: Hot or Cold

Is it better to drink warm or cold lemon water in the morning?
I get this question asked often enough in my Instagram stories as people see me drinking both cool and warm water first thing in the morning. Besides answering this question, I am also compiling answers to other common questions that I get asked along with it.
How much lemon water do I drink each morning?
I generally drink 24-32 oz of lemon water every morning when I wake up. I was doing 16 oz for a long time, but then it grew into 24-32 oz most days. This larger amount also makes me feel better on the days I fall off track and don’t hydrate enough during the day.
Morning Lemon Water: Hot or Cold – Why do I change?
During the warmer months I gravitate towards 32 oz of COOL water first thing in the morning. Once the weather cools down however, I generally gravitate towards WARM water first thing in the morning. Drinking cool water right away on a chilly morning does not appeal to me.
During the cooler months I start with a 12 oz warm/hot mug of lemon water (usually with grated ginger in it too). Depending on what I’m feeling, I follow it with one more mug of warm water or cool water (sometimes both).
What are the benefits of room temperature or cool lemon water? What are the benefits of warm or hot lemon water?
Both cool/room temperature and warm/hot lemon water have their benefits. Cool/Room temperature is best for optimal hydration. Warm/Hot promotes better digestion.
Ice Cold water is not great for digestion so skip this unless it’s blazing hot out and it’s calling you. 🙂
How much lemon do I add to my morning lemon water?
Adding FRESH (no squeeze bottle or essential oil) lemon or lime to our water first thing in the morning really helps cleanse and purge out the toxins that have accumulated. I always use 1/2 lemon squeeze, but do more if you wish!
Chronic dehydration even when we don’t feel thirsty.
Even if we don’t feel thirsty, the everyday toxins and heavy metals we are exposed to, the food we eat, the excess salt, it’s all dehydrating. All the more reason for us to make sure we are continually hydrating.
If you don’t have a water preference, I would drink cool or room temperature lemon water first thing. It’s more hydrating and usually you can get more water down this way.
