Before I share my fridge organization containers, I want to let you know that my fridge does not always look perfectly organized. As much as I love everything in a container and all cleaned and sparkly, many times I just put in the groceries as quickly as I can. It all depends on my mood and the amount of time I have. It’s also the reason I did not add more fridge organization containers to the bottom shelf. I was realistic with how I live and I knew that I would want that open space to be free to use in any way I needed it. With this said, even on my lazier weeks, my fridge still looks MUCH more organized since buying containers.
So while you are thinking about how you want to organize everything, I HIGHLY suggest leaving some container-free space like I have on the bottom shelf. Besides groceries that you may want to leave in their original packaging, it is also a spot for your premade meals and leftovers.
$$$ Saving Fridge Organization Containers
- Use jars to store things like garlic, chia seeds, hemp seeds, nuts, and herbs trimmed in water. Jars are a great way to store things, they can fit in-between other containers or in drawers, and are generally inexpensive.
- Go to your nearest Home Goods before ordering from the Container Store. My 3 Home Goods containers I have in my fridge were about the same as 1 of my containers from the Container Store. Plus, the Home Goods containers I bought fit perfectly in my fridge! Of course I had returns, but you never know until you try. Just buy a bunch at Home Goods, and try them in your fridge. Keep what works great and return the rest. Then proceed to the Container Store if you wish.
Container Store Home Edit Organizers In My Fridge
- The Home Edit Narrow Drawer – I have been storing my red bell peppers and jalapenos in this drawer for the norm, but right now carrots are in the drawer.
- The Home Edit Divided Fridge Drawer – You can take out the middle divider section when you want to place something larger in like small oranges or avocados.
- Stacking Pantry Bin (my favorite of the Container Store Bins) – Great for apples and oranges.
- The Home Edit Small Berry Bin (2nd favorite of the Container Store Bins) – I put berries, tomatoes, and sometimes washed herbs in this.
Tip – All of these plastic containers regardless of where you buy them from are generally hand wash only, so don’t put them in the dishwasher. It’s about the only items I hand wash. HA.
Amazon Fridge Organization Containers
You can always look to Amazon for storage containers too. If you don’t measure well, you can always use the produce containers in your pantry or storage closets for some added organization.
What is the best way to organize a refrigerator?
- The best way is whatever way works for you and the way you live.
- Take inventory of what you have in your fridge on the norm.
- Decide what type of containers would work best for each of the items you want containers for. Do you buy a lot of loose leaf lettuce? Then you’ll want to get a large bin that would work for lettuce. Do you want your lemons in an open container where you can easily see them, or would you rather have them in a bottom drawer?
- Buy your desired containers and move them around in the fridge until it seems to work the best. You may want to refrain from buying more (if needed) until you do a grocery shopping trip and see how the new use of space is working out so far. Living with it for a bit is the best way to see how you want the fridge organized.
- Stackable containers are great and can save a lot of space. However, another great way to gain space is by just moving up or down a shelf in your fridge. Small glass jars sometimes fit in-between containers while providing more organization.
- Sometimes removing a shelf from your fridge all together gives you a better use of space. For example, I took out the butter dish in my fridge and it provided me with a better use of space for my celery.
Happy Organizing!
