Easy Berry Chia Seed Jam

Easy Berry Chia Seed Jam

You really don’t have to ever buy jam, unless you are traveling and it’s more convenient. I recommend this clean brand if so. Otherwise, if you have any type of berries on hand, you are set. When it’s just me and I happen to have bread on hand and want some toast, I’ll mash down some raspberries with some raw honey and spread it on. You can use any fresh berry of your choice though. It easily does the trick and tastes great. However if you want a jar of homemade jam or compote to put on bread, oatmeal, or baked goods, you’ve got to try this quick and easy berry chia seed jam.

Easy Berry Chia Seed Jam

It’s 3 main ingredients besides the water – frozen berries of choice, chia seeds, and lemon juice. Depending on how sweet your berries are, the taste-buds of whoever is going to enjoy it, and how you are using it, you might not need to add any maple syrup or raw honey. It just depends on how sweet of a jam you want. I use frozen mixed berries when I have them on hand – raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, and blueberries. Anything you have in the moment though is the best choice.

It does not keep as long as store-bought jams, but it still lasts 5-7 days. Once it’s made though, I think you’ll find it goes fast. I was enjoying it on a variety of quinoa cereal bowls, which I will share soon.

It would be really good with this Easy Gluten-Free Seeded Bread.

Adding a large spoonful to this oatmeal or overnight oats would be delicious too.

Easy Berry Chia Seed Jam

This easy berry chia seed jam is so quick and easy to make that you might never buy store-bought again. You can use any frozen berries of choice. I like using a mixed bag of raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, and blueberries when I have those on hand. I also find the mixed variety is sweet enough without adding any maple or honey, but feel free to add either to taste for a sweeter jam or compote.

Ingredients Method Notes

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups frozen mixed berries blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries, you can use any frozen berries though
  • 1/3 cup filtered water
  • 1/2 TBSP lemon juice
  • 1 TBSP chia seeds
  • optional maple syrup or raw honey to taste

Method

  1. Add the frozen berries and water to a saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat to a simmer for 10 minutes. Use a masher to carefully mash down some berries to your desired consistency. I mash a little, but not too much.
  2. Carefully pour the mixture into a wide mouth 16 oz mason jar.
  3. Stir in the lemon juice, chia seeds and optional maple syrup or raw honey. If you are unsure about the sweetener, you can always add after it cools too.
  4. Let it completely cool before you cover and refrigerate. Use up within 5-7 days. I bet it won't last that long though. Enjoy!
