Once in awhile I’ll buy a really delicious Oasis Jalapeno Hummus at my local Whole Foods. It’s ingredients are chickpeas, water, sesame tahini, jalapeno, lemon juice, fresh garlic, and sea salt. No oil, no additives, preservatives, or anything. Pretty amazing considering that even the cleaner hummus brands tend to have something less than. While it’s a treat for me to buy something that I can easily make at home for much less sometimes, I don’t do it super often. Grocery prices are high enough, and it’s one way I can save a little. So I took the ingredient list from the package and started to make my own.

I’ll admit, I’ve made this jalapeno hummus a number of times now and have to tweak it every single time. It’s because jalapenos are all over the place on spice. And then the more jalapeno’s you add, the more of the other ingredients may need tweaking according to taste-buds. This last batch I made before writing this recipe, I ended up putting 3 jalapenos in. To tell you to put 3 jalapenos in from the start though is a bit crazy. I’m not trying to burn your tongue. Ha. So I wrote the recipe with 1-3. Start with 1, taste it, and if it needs more, add in more. If you happen to get some dull jalapenos, shake in some red pepper flakes too. You could also roast your jalapeno in a skillet or toaster oven until softened beforehand. I like extra quick and easy most of the time, so I have yet to do this, but I’m sure it would be extra delish. If you want to change up the flavor, add in some cilantro and lime.
I like adding hummus to salads, Buddha bowls, cold steamed yellow potatoes, and wraps. Another seemingly odd place I’ll stir in a heaping TBSP of hummus, is in a super basic veggie soup. It makes it creamier and more satisfying. Give it a go sometime and report back to me. 🙂 Hummus is just so versatile and takes simple meals up a notch.

This zucchini hummus is a really great chickpea free hummus. It’s just a lot more tahini as it’s needed for taste and consistency. You must also like cumin since it’s a must ingredient for it taste-wise. If you’re good with all of that, definitely try it out.

Jalapeno Hummus
Ingredients
Method
- Add the chickpeas, jalapenos, tahini, garlic, lemon, and salt to a food processor. Turn on and run. While running, add in the super cold water through the top of the food processor. Run until super smooth and creamy. I do it for a good minute before tasting and adjusting to taste. Run for another full minute. Serve as desired and enjoy! I think hummus tastes better as it sits in the fridge for a bit.
