10 things. 10/19

  1. CCF tea – I’ve started making CCF tea and having it about an hour prior to lunch. CCF tea is an Ayurvedic tea best known for it’s digestive benefits amongst many others. It’s equal parts whole cumin seeds, whole coriander seeds, and whole fennel seeds. I add 3 tsp of the mix (1 tsp each) to 2 cups of water in a saucepan on the stovetop. Bring to a boil for 5-6 minutes. I then pour it right into my mug, seeds and all. You can strain them if desired, but it’s just easier to leave them in. Plus, I enjoy eating of few of the seeds as I get them too. I’ve also added equal parts of the whole seeds to my coffee grinder and ground them up for a spice mix. I use the mix to sprinkle on meals, curries, soups, etc.
  2. I’ve been making various Kitchari’s – an Ayurvedic dish. It’s made with moong daal lentils which is considered the best legume for a Vata dosha type (my body type) in Ayurveda, but it also happens to be a good legume for all doshas. I shared one Kitchari version called Ri’s Kitchari on the blog since I thought it would appeal to more, but I’m also making simple lentil vegetable versions without the tomato. Once you do one kitchari recipe, you get the hang of how to play around and do different ones depending on your body’s needs and what you have on hand.
  3. If I’m not having this protein powder chia pudding for breakfast (after berries, grapefruit, apple, kiwi, or papaya), I’m making this avocado breakfast pudding or shake. It’s one you can easily tweak to your needs and tastes as well. Chia pudding is still my #1 go-to right now, but this avocado pudding is a nice one to change it up and easier to make last minute.
    • Avocado breakfast pudding/shake:
    • 8 oz almond milk – I’ve used water in a pinch too
    • 1 avocado – you could also do 1/2 avocado and 1/2-1 frozen banana if desired
    • 1 serving pumpkin seed protein powder
    • 1 tsp Ceylon cinnamon
    • 1 tsp Maca powder – has a vanilla malt-like taste
    • 1/8th tsp ish monk fruit powder – you could also use a softened Medjool date or a TBSP honey or maple – I’ve had to lower my sugar/starch intake some – yes, even in the form of natural sugars for the time being (potatoes, fruit, honey, maple syrup) due to Candida overgrowth (my old beliefs around Candida were not working for me) and turned to monk fruit powder to sweeten breakfasts and teas. I never thought I would get used to it the first few times having it, but now I don’t mind it in certain things. My sweet tooth has drastically changed now though, so if you try it due to your own health reasons, just know it might take some time getting used to it and your sweet buds to change. If you don’t have a reason to switch though, I would stick with the honey or maple. 🙂 I’ll be going back to honey soon.
    • handful of spinach
    • 4 – 5 ice cubes
    • Add everything above to a high speed blender and pour in a bowl and eat with a spoon. Alternatively, you can turn it into a drinkable shake by adding a tad more water to thin it out some.
  4. I highly recommend this bamboo build-a-board for making veggie or fruit trays. I brought a simple veggie platter to my brother’s last weekend and it worked great and traveled well. A great one for the holiday season.
  5. I’ve been spraying 3 squirts of this magnesium spray on the bottom of each foot before bed. I’m not sure if I’ve noticed anything, but I’m all for getting in different types of magnesium and a topical application is highly absorbable. It’s supposed to be good for cramps, soreness, muscle relief, and improved sleep.
  6. Tis the season of apple crisp. There is an easy recipe on the blog when you are in the mood.
  7. OSEA is offering their new limited edition holiday sets this month. My pick is the Ocean Body Glow that includes 3 full sized products – their best selling body wash (I also use to shave), body oil, and body butter. It’s $98 dollars ($138 value) and you can stack my 10% herhealthystyle10 code with it. Buy a pack to save money, take the product(s) you want and gift the other(s) for the holidays. A win win.
  8. I’m living (not sleeping in) in this super comfortable organic cotton sleep set. I roll the waste band over once so it’s not so long and fits better. I can’t recommend this comfy set enough.
  9. This week’s Quince Picks: Free shipping, 365 day returns, and quality products for amazing prices is why I shop Quince often.  If you are in need of new bedding – duvets, quilts, and sheets, take a look at these: Bamboo sheets, Organic Cotton Coverlet, Organic Ribbed Cotton Coverlet, Floral Coverlet Set. Think Parachute and Pottery Barn styles with a better price tag. I’m currently on a waitlist for this one for winter to match my linen duvet set from them. It’s in stock in other colors.
  10. “If Autumn teaches us one thing, it’s to relish in the beauty and inevitability of change.”
