Cruciferous vegetables like cauliflower, broccoli, brussels sprouts, and kale all support us in balancing our hormones. They contain a compound that helps our body metabolize estrogen in the liver. Frozen cauliflower, while it may sound a little out there, is a great one to add into certain smoothies and sneak a cruciferous vegetable in. It doesn’t taste like cauliflower either! This hormone love frozen cauliflower smoothie as I’m calling it contains raspberries and carob powder for a subtle chocolate berry-like taste. It’s mixed with other healthy fats like avocado and hemp seeds to support our hormones even further and make this a creamier, thicker smoothie. This high fiber smoothie from the cauliflower, avocado, raspberries, spinach, Medjool dates, and carob powder is also great for gut health, which in turn plays a role in balancing hormones. Everything is connected!
Enjoy as a filling afternoon snack or as a lunch, which is how I have been enjoying it lately. My hunger levels vary depending on the day and where I’m at in my cycle. I’m always tweaking my recipes based on my needs and I invite you to do the same. 🙂
Hormone Love Frozen Cauliflower Smoothie
This is not that sweet of a smoothie, so add in an additional Medjool date if you’d like it a bit sweeter.
Ingredients
1.5 cups almond milk, I use homemade with just almonds and water, but clean store-bought is great too
1 cup frozen riced cauliflower, I buy the organic bags from Costco
1/2 cup frozen organic raspberries, I buy from Trader’s
1/4 avocado
1 cup organic spinach, spinach hides itself in taste-wise, so if you don’t have spinach, don’t substitute for another green, just skip
1/2 tsp Ceylon cinnamon
1 TBSP Carob powder
2 TBSP hemp hearts, I sometimes do 1 TBSP hemp hearts and 1 TBSP flaxseed too
1-2 soft Medjool dates, pitted – I’ve been using the Date Lady syrup in place of dates in recipes like this lately (it’s 100% organic dates)
optional add-in or avocado swap, 1 TBSP of almond butter if that sounds good to you – just make sure it’s unrefined raw almonds for ingredients (most of them sneak in junk and poor oils)
Method
Add everything to a high speed blender, using the tamper to help it along. If needed, add in a bit more almond milk to get it to blend. I like to keep this one thick and pour it in a bowl and eat with a spoon. It’s different, but I hope you enjoy it. Xx
