10 things. 7/25

10 things. 7/25

This week’s 10 things 7/25:

  1. Ladies, in our luteal phase (the second half of cycle) and especially the week before our period, we might crave more carbs, sweets, and chocolate during this time (I do!). I don’t fight the extra hunger that comes during this time. I eat more, because I know my body needs more and is calling for more. However, I still pay attention to little cues, like a super high chocolate craving. It might be my body actually calling out for more iron and magnesium that is found in chocolate. While I’ll still enjoy some chocolate when I have it on hand, I make sure to get in extra dark greens like spinach, kale, and spirulina powder as well as chia seeds for an iron boost. Quinoa is another one that can be really helpful during this time as it contains some iron and is a whole grain. Whole grains help with the possible carb cravings. It’s also a complete protein and higher in fiber, both of which help make us feel more full. Pumpkin seeds are a good source of iron and magnesium – both of which are helpful around this time of month, especially on our cycle. I’m always listening to little cues from my body.
  2. I just uploaded a Candida supplement post. It’s there as a reference if you ever need it.
  3. When you are following someone/me, it’s important to realize that we may be cleansing or eliminating foods to help us short term, but realize just because I’m not eating something, doesn’t necessarily mean you should be avoiding it. Just a reminder to observe in these instances, but don’t follow. Always always, do you.
  4. The word “healthy” can be so controversial. What helps me when my heads spins or if I’m trying to explain or help someone else is to focus on other terms like alkaline foods vs acidic or anti-inflammatory foods vs inflammatory foods or anti-aging foods vs aging foods. Foods that leave our body alkaline are fruits, greens, vegetables, grains like quinoa and millet. If this is still confusing, I just think the more living foods I eat, the better.
  5. If you are looking for a new yoga mat and are open to a cork mat, check out Scoria. It’s natural, non-toxic, harvested sustainably, anti-microbial (my favorite part), has an ultra grip with sweat or a spray of water with a water bottle. I ordered one after my previous Jade Harmony mat had it’s life (it lasted me 6-7 years I believe, maybe more!). I don’t think a cork mat will last as long, but I wanted one I didn’t have to worry about cleaning often…. Scoria is a women-owned small business. It took a month to get my mat, but was well worth the wait.
  6. These linen drawstring pants are super affordable and easy to throw on this time of year. My linen jacket I pair them with is no longer sold, but this linen short sleeve shirt pairs great. Comes in different colors.
  7. This healthier strawberry shortcake recipe is perfect for strawberry season.
  8. These basil pesto Portobello mushrooms are great this time of year too.
  9. Accept others and yourself no matter where the heck you/they are on their journey. I believe we are exactly where we are meant to be no matter where it is. The ups, the downs, highs, lows, and in-betweens. It’s all part of our story and helps shape who we are along the way.
  10. “Grateful for where I’m at. Excited for where I’m going.”
