Broccoli with Turmeric Tahini Sauce

While the turmeric tahini sauce might resemble a cheese sauce, the sauce tastes slightly bitter from the turmeric, nutty from the tahini, and tad tangy from the lemon. It is not sweet by any means, but once you pour it over and pair it with the sweeter broccoli, you may just love it.
Servings: 3 - 4

Ingredients

  • Steamed broccoli use your preferred method to steam it
  • 1/4 cup tahini 1 additional TBSP might be needed after blending
  • 1/2 cup water with thick tahini OR 1/3 cup with thinner/runnier/squeezable tahini
  • 1 TBSP high quality olive oil this will allow it to be more pourable day after too
  • 1/2 lemon to start more if desired after blending
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder don't go over - stick to 1 tsp
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt adjust to taste
  • ground pepper I turn my pepper mill 10 times

Method

  1. Add all sauce ingredients to a small blender and blend until smooth. Now taste it. I'll forewarn you now, it's a shocking taste for the taste-buds at first, but taste it again a second time to really see if it needs anything. A pinch more of salt, a small squeeze of lemon, more tahini? Tahini's vary and so do the tartness of lemons, so you might not need anything. If you want it a bit thicker or want to tone down the turmeric, add an extra TBSP of tahini and blend again. Pour over that steamed broccoli now and you'll see how they are a match. :) Pause, take a few deep breaths, say a short gratitude prayer, and ENJOY!
This makes about 1 cup, store any remaining sauce in a glass mason jar. Use up within 3-4 days. Tahini thickens as it sits so you may need to stir before using again. If it's too thick I add a bit of cold water and mix with a fork the next day.
