ZENB Gluten-Free Pasta Review
I’ve seen others enjoying ZENB pasta on Instagram, but it took me awhile to actually order some and try it out. After having gone through 4 different noodle shapes, I can say it is one of my favorite pastas now…if not my favorite!
What is ZENB pasta made from and what does it taste like?
ZENB is made from 100% whole yellow peas, including their skins, which gives us more fiber. I don’t think I’ve even seen yellow peas before, but the pasta flavor has a very mild pea-like taste.
Pros of ZENB Pasta:
- It pairs great with different ingredients and sauces.
- The texture and consistency is amazing. It reminds me of a typical gluten/wheat pasta. Gluten-free or not, I think most would enjoy it.
- Besides being gluten-free, if you can’t have or choose to avoid grains (rice pasta) or beans (chickpea pasta), this is hopefully a pasta you can have!
- ZENB offer so many pasta shapes -Penne, Rotini, Elbows, Spaghetti, Pasta Agile. I like switching up noodle shapes depending on what I’m making, but my favorite is the Penne shape from this line.
Cons of ZENB Pasta:
- It is not found in the grocery stores. You can buy it on Amazon, but it is a better deal ordering directly from them. Certain orders ship free.
- It is pricier than some gluten-free pastas, but I think it is priced great for quality pasta.
- Although they have so many noodle types, you may still find yourself wanting a pasta shape not yet made by ZENB.
- Although the taste is a very light pea-like taste, it does have more of a taste than a plain rice noodle. Depending on what you are making, this may be a con.
Cooking Tidbits:
- I have found that the pasta foams/bubbles over easily when cooking it, so I generally stay right at the stovetop and stir often.
- You may want to undercook it. I undercook it or cook it right at the lowest al dente time. I set the timer for one minute below the lowest recommended time and test it right away. If you like your pasta extra al dente, check it two minutes earlier.
- Don’t let it sit in a strainer too long after rinsing or it will stick together. Mix it with your sauce right away. I learned this the hard way, but I was still able to pull apart each noodle quickly and immerse it in the sauce and it tasted perfect.
