Medical Medium’s Thyroid Healing Soup is nourishing, grounding, comforting, and good for our body. Whether you are the under the weather – mind or body, healing symptoms, or just want a warm bowl/mug of soup during the chilly months, give this one a try.
While I call it a soup since I keep in the vegetables and blend them, you can also strain them to make a broth. I bulk up Medical Medium’s recipe to make more meals out of it, but I’ll include the original recipe as well. You can decide what you prefer.
It’s an easy recipe to change up, but the reason it’s called thyroid healing, is due to the fact that there are thyroid healing ingredients in it. For this reason, I would try to include the following as well: parsley, thyme, sweet potatoes, celery, onions, garlic, turmeric, ginger, and Atlantic sea vegetables (dulse or kelp). Medical Medium’s Thyroid Healing Broth (Original Recipe)
- 1 cup finely chopped parsley
- 4 sprigs of thyme
- 2 sweet potatoes, cubed
- 2 celery stalks, diced
- 2 onions, diced
- 6 garlic cloves
- 1 inch turmeric root, minced
- 1 inch ginger root, minced
- 2 tbsp Atlantic dulse flakes
- 1 tbsp kelp powder
- 8 cups water
Place the sweet potatoes, celery, onions, garlic, turmeric, parsley, thyme sprigs, dulse flakes, and kelp powder into a large pot along with the water. Bring the broth to a boil and then reduce the heat to a low simmer. Simmer the broth for one hour. Strain and enjoy as a healing, restorative broth that can be sipped throughout the day.
Medical Medium’s Thyroid Healing Soup (my tweaked version)
Ingredients
- 1 bunch of parsley
- 4 sprigs of thyme, if I don’t have fresh, I use 2 tsp dried
- 3 lb bag sweet potatoes (or 4-5 large ones), cubed
- 1 bunch of celery, diced
- 1 large yellow onion, diced
- 6 large garlic cloves
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 inch ginger root, finely chopped
- 1 TBSP Atlantic dulse flakes
- 10 cups water
Add everything to a large soup pot and bring to a good boil. Lower the heat to a low simmer and cook covered for about an hour. Once cooked, remove any large thyme twigs and carefully add batches to the blender. Blend until mostly smooth. I keep mine a little chunky, but you can make it whatever consistency you wish. Enjoy the nourishing mug or bowl!
