Our surroundings affect our moods. There are so many feelings a space can give off. Depending on how a space feels, it can make us want to stay longer or hit the road when we can. It can boost our mood, calm us, excite us or even make us irritable, sad, or uncomfortable. We won’t love every place we are in, but we can certainly make our home feel good to us. Today I am sharing how to make your home feel alive. You know, that feeling you get when there is good energy in the room.
How To Make Your Home Feel Alive:
Real Greenery
One of the easiest ways to do this is by adding greenery. Although I am not opposed to faux, if you really want that lively feeling, use the real deal for this. It doesn’t have to cost anything if you can find a yard. Chop some branches from a tree or bush in a yard and stick them in a vase with water. I live in a condo, but I’m always hacking away at branches, bushes, and trees when I’m in Wisconsin. Your yard is not safe with me. lol
Another way to add greens is by buying plants for the house. Even if you don’t have room for a large plant or don’t want a large plant, get a small plant or two. I usually grab mine from the grocery stores. Usually they are less expensive than a bouquet of flowers and they last a lot longer. Don’t let a pot stop you from getting one either. I have two in my house that live in the tan paper and plastic pot they came in.
You could always just buy a bouquet of greens at the grocery store. I do this more often than not since I don’t always have access to a yard. They look so simple but they add so much to your home. They usually last a good two weeks for me when I remember to trim the bottoms every few days.
Flowers
Besides greens, a fresh bouquet of flowers adds life to a space. Next time you buy yourself some flowers, notice how many times you catch yourself looking at them and how much joy they bring you.
Lighting
Open those curtains, open those blinds, turn on the lights. Just these simple things can make a dreary home feel more alive and happier. Use a combination of different lighting sources from the natural light outside, lamps inside, candles (I usually use battery operated ones to avoid the soot/smoke most days), and overhead lighting. I’m all about saving on electricity, but there are so many bulbs out there that use less energy. Your better mood will outweigh the small cost.
Bring the Fresh Air In
When the temperature outside allows, open your windows up. Besides the fresh air that brings “life” indoors, you hear the sounds of the wind, rain, city, kids, birds, train, all depending on where you live. I love to bring the outdoors in as often as I can by opening my porch (balcony) doors up.
Music
There is usually always music on in my house. I play all different genres, but most of the time it’s just peaceful background music. On the days I can’t open the windows, this really helps make my home feel livelier. I have the Sonos speakers throughout my house and I highly recommend them. You could start with the two small ones and add on like I did.
Besides those listed above, friends, family, kids and pets all add to the lively feeling of a home. You just have to decide how lively you like it to be. 😊
With a few simple changes, you can add a little life and feel good energy into your home. It’s so important for our mood and our minds.
