Golden Milk is delicious anytime of year, but all of the warming spices make it the perfect cup on a cold day. This comforting, warming drink that originated in India, tastes earthy, sweet, and full of spice. A golden milk is also called turmeric milk, golden milk latte, turmeric latte, and in India -“haldi doodh.” Some use more milk, extra spices, and different spice proportions, but they are all essentially a variation of the same drink. I’m going to share my version of a golden milk turmeric latte with you and I don’t skimp on the spice!

How To Make A Golden Milk Turmeric Latte
One Serving
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup hot water
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 3/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 1/2 tsp freshly grated ginger
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp cardamom
- 1 tsp coconut oil or coconut butter
- pinch black pepper or 2 good grinds from your pepper mill
- 3 tsp maple syrup more to taste
Directions
Heat up 1/2 cup of water in a kettle, teapot or saucepan on the stove. Add the turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, coconut oil, and black pepper to your cup or mug. Pour the hot water into your cup and cover with a small plate to steep for 10 minutes. When the 10 minutes is almost up, heat up your almond milk in a small saucepan on the stove. Strain out the grated ginger from your ingredients if you wish (I leave it in). Pour in the heated almond milk, sweeten with maple syrup, give it a good stir, and enjoy!!
Some herbalists say not to boil the ingredients to keep the flavors and medicinal properties intact, but if you choose, you can simmer everything together on the stovetop.
Riane’s Tidbits
If you don’t have fresh ginger, you can omit it. If you do, using a zester to grate the ginger will get the ginger super fine and you won’t have to strain it out in the end. Many times I’m lazy and just finely chop my ginger instead of zesting it, but I don’t mind the little ginger chunks in my cup. The ginger flavor does come out a bit more when zested though.
I make my own homemade almond milk so it’s extra creamy. On the rare occasion I don’t make my own, I buy Malk. I also cut the milk down to 3/4 cup when I drink out of my smaller cups since that’s all that fits. On the flip side, many cups are larger and if you want to fill up your cup more, you can up the liquid by 1/2 cup milk with still keeping the other amounts the same.
I order turmeric powder, dragon fruit powder, pumpkin seed protein powder, vanilla, & more from Wilderness Poets.
