Decorating My Home For Fall

Decorating My Home For Fall

How To Decorate For Fall - My Home For Fall

Happy Fall! It’s that time of year where we want to warm up our homes a bit. This week I added in some warmer colors by switching out pillowcovers in the living room, our duvet in the bedroom, moving around things I already have, adding Fall produce to a textured bowl in the kitchen, displaying wood serving trays, getting out a houndstooth patterened blanket, adding a fun new towel to the kitchen, and buying some greens and Fall foliage.

Remember there is no right or wrong way to decorate your home for Fall. Do what feels like you! It also does not have to cost a lot of money, take a lot of time, or be overloaded with pumpkins and leaves (unless you want it to). I spent less than $50 (on a new hand towel and foliage/greens) and about two hours changing/moving around things. Granted my home is a 1000 sq ft condo, but I hope to show you that the smallest changes can make a big difference. I hope you walk away inspired with something for your own home.

This year, this is what I was feeling:

I got this adorable linen hand towel during our Michigan trip and it makes me & the kitchen happy. The brown colors in the towel tie in with the leaning wood serving boards. Yes, it could be ironed, but I think it is perfect the way it is. 🙂 The towel brand is “I Like Beautiful Things”, but I could not find any place to tag it and the place I bought it from does not have a website yet.

The extent of my Fall decorating in the kitchen: a new hand towel, wooden leaning boards that add warmth and tie in the brown colors in the towel, a CB2 sunny yellow pot (not available any more) filled with Trader Joe’s greens that pulls in the yellow from the towel, and a textured bowl (bought it in Door County) that holds any Fall produce I buy.

The dining view from the kitchen – don’t mind the strange glare. 🙂

The rustic wood table (from Restoration Hardware) lends itself to warmth as is.

To add a little something more though, I draped a vintage linen tablecloth over a chair back that has pink and green to tie in nearby colors. It just gives the table a cozier vibe. The silk lime pillow is just a single pillowcover I bought years ago that covers a usual white pillow.

And I moved around some things that were in other places to go on the tabletop. I felt like it needed something fresh and green, beeswax candlesticks are always on the table, and the crystal dish with selenite just looked pretty next to the candlesticks.

Our Living Room: I changed out a few more white pillows for velvet floral ones. I got them at Pottery Barn some years ago. Small space tip: Buy a set of pillow inserts and buy different pillow covers of the same size to switch out for seasons. PIllow covers easily fold up and don’t take up too much space.

This pretty throw blanket I got last year at a Door County market. The houndstooth print screams Fall and adds a little warmth to the chair.

The colors tie in throughout. This makes everything flow visually.

I kept the coffee table decor fairly simple. A heather plant from Trader Joe’s, a beeswax tealight in a votive, palos santos & sage, magazines, and a single vintage candleholder with a beeswax taper.

I even switched the front record in the record bin (peaking out on the floor) to tie in with the pink and brown in the floral pillows.

This beautiful burgandy and hot pink foliage was the best find at the Farmer’s Market last Sunday.

The cognac and carmel colors warm up the white bathroom. I think I got the dried thingamajigs in the vase at Michael’s (they are old).

And in the bedroom, I switchecd out our usual white duvet cover for this floral one – also a Pottery Barn find years ago.

The little bit of burgandy inside of these greens was the reason I chose them. Although not very Fall like, they still go. The vase was a Home Goods score.

The burnt color velvet pillow is normally on the opposing chair, but now that it’s Fall I switched the pillows to tie in with the duvet better. The cozy Restoration Hardware throw was already on there.

It has only been a few days, but I have already been enjoying the change and warmth with all of these touches.
