Rest and recharge your mind and body

December 21, 2021

Rest is so important for both our mind and our body. If you are anything like me, you like to be “productive” and get things done. However, it’s when we take the time to rest that we feel recharged afterwards. It actually helps increase our productivity. With the holiday season here and many having extra time off, I thought it was important to remind us to slow down where we can and fully relax. Downtime also helps put everything in perspective and points out what’s really important to us in our lives. If that’s not reason enough to rest, I don’t know what is. I hope you are able to take the time to rest and recharge your mind and body soon.

The Best Ways to Rest and Recharge your Mind and Body

Ways to rest and recharge your mind and body:

  1. Take a break from or limit your screen time.

Disconnect from your screens and the outside world. Live in your own life, in the present, today, right now. Take a break from scrolling and checking that inbox.

  1. Watch cozy, feel-good movies or shows.

Go ahead, even binge watch if you want and don’t feel guilty about it. It’s your downtime.

  1. Curl up with a good book and a hot drink.

Grab something you want to read for pure pleasure. It can even be a coffee table book or magazine. Whatever brings you joy. Don’t forget to add a hot cup of something to sip on while you read. Maybe this golden milk turmeric latte.

  1. Take a nap.

If you feel exhausted and are running on empty, a nap might be the best form of self-care right now. Whether you think you have time for it or not, remember you’ll be much more productive and most likely happier if you give your body the rest.

  1. Take a bath and/or put a face mask on.

Pamper yourself with however that looks to you. A hot bubble bath with tea or a glass of wine, or maybe a face mask or two.

  1. Make or order in a delicious meal or bake cookies.

For some it’s therapeutic to cook, for others not as much. I fall in the latter. Since I make my own meals the majority of the time, picking up a delicious meal seems more restful. Although, because I’m not much of a baker, a batch of homemade cookies still sounds cozy and delicious!

  1. Get outside in nature.

Nature and fresh air helps clear and recharge our minds. It’s an instant mood boost. Try going for a walk not knowing a specific route or destination and just take in the surroundings. Stop and smell the trees, fresh air, ground if you can, and try to just be.

  1. Say no to things that won’t bring you joy.

Our time is precious, especially downtime when you find it. Protect your space and only do what truly makes you happy. Saying yes to things out of guilt only makes us regretful. Sure sometimes we have to say yes to things we really don’t want to do since it means a lot to our loved ones, but we are talking about resting and recharging here. So if it’s not in line with that for you, just say no.
