We always want to boost our immune system, but even more so when we travel. Between the possible exposure to bugs, viruses, food poisoning, and a change to our normal diet, whatever we can do to strengthen our system prior and during travel is ideal. Below is my list of travel tips to help stay healthy. And if you happen to catch something, hopefully these tips will help you recover faster!

Travel Tips To Stay Healthy
- Up your Zinc intake.
Prior to a trip or if I’m feeling exposed to something I’ll up my zinc intake. If you are new to taking zinc, just be mindful of when you take it as to how you feel. You may experience nausea if you take zinc on an empty stomach depending on your body. This was me for a long time, but I now take it just fine on an empty stomach and follow it with food 30 min or so later.
Zinc, as liquid zinc sulfate, is an essential mineral for everyone to supplement for fighting colds and flus, for chronic illness, and also for health maintenance and future illness prevention. Zinc is a virus and bug killer. The onslaught of viruses, bacteria, and other pathogens we are faced with today in particular drains our zinc reserves.

- Get plenty of Vitamin C.
Eat and drink plenty of Vitamin C rich foods. Oranges, fresh squeezed orange juice, tangerines, and kiwis are all great sources of Vitamin C.
Take a high quality Vitamin C supplement. I take Micro-C that is enhanced with Rose Hips which is also a great source of Vitamin C. Do what you are comfortable with, but I take more than the serving size in wintertime and around traveling. It’s easy to pack capsules for traveling too. This capsule container is large enough to fit different supplements in and you can label each section.
- Take antiviral and immune boosting supplements and powders.
Oil of Oregano, Cats Claw, Elderberry, Chaga, Reishi, Spirulina, L-Lysine, Lemon Balm, B12, and Sovereign Silver Hydrosol are all great ones to check out.
I take all of them, but if I could only pick 3 for a quick trip it probably be oil of oregano, sovereign silver hydrosol, and cats claw. If I was going on a plane and had a carry-on, I would skip the liquid cats claw and take some L-Lysine capsules. L-Lysine paired with the Micro-C above is a great pair.
- Take antiviral garlic, raw honey, turmeric, and ginger.
Raw garlic, raw honey, turmeric, and ginger are all great and inexpensive ways to boost your immune system. One raw garlic clove a day keeps the doctor away. No, I made that up, but raw garlic is antiviral and antibacterial and a great one to take daily prior to and during travel. Just chop it up and swallow it or mix it into your food. A chunk of garlic is easy to travel with too as it does not need to be refrigerated and lasts forever.
Honey in its raw form is important for supporting immunity and a secret weapon to help with infectious illness.
You can add raw honey to your daily lemon water or ginger tea for an additional immune boost. These honey sticks are great for travel.
Both turmeric and ginger are in this golden milk turmeric latte that you may enjoy, or you can juice fresh turmeric ginger shots that also includes garlic and oranges for even more support. However, if you are without a kitchen or juicer during travel, turmeric and ginger capsules are easy to take. The ginger capsules are also great to take with your heavier meals out as a digestive aid.
- Drink plenty of healing fluids.
Lemon water, ginger water, celery juice, cucumber juice, and fresh fruit & vegetable juices are all great options. Just stay hydrated. Don’t forget to stir in some raw honey to your lemon or ginger water. You can even do a lemon, ginger, honey water. This filtering water bottle filters water wherever you fill it up during your travels.
I usually drink lemon and ginger water at room temperature with water from my Berkey. Because it’s room temperature, when I add in honey it does not dissolve as easily. So if you drink it like this, just swirl around a teaspoon of honey and it will eventually fall off of the spoon.
- Sip on healing teas throughout your days.
Tea bags are so easy to toss into your bag while you travel. I usually keep 1 or 2 in my purse with me wherever I go.
Thyme tea is a highly antiviral tea. Just steep fresh thyme sprigs and drink it by itself or add in some honey or a squeeze of lemon. I really love the taste of it by itself though. The fresh thyme springs are not as easy for travel, but you can drink plenty before you leave and when you come back.
Rose Hips Tea which contains Vitamin C is a great one if you like a fruitier, tangier tea.
Peppermint tea is another immune boosting tea. If you do happen to get sick, it’s also great for nausea, congestion, headaches, and digestion issues.
- Wash your hands and sanitize often.
This is probably a given, but I still wanted to include it. When you are traveling, wash your hands often. If you don’t have access to water and soap, check out these wipes and this hand sanitizer that I use.
- Get plenty of sleep.
Give your body plenty of time to rest, repair, and recover to keep your physical and mental strength up.
- Diffuse essential oils.
I have this last since I’m guessing you are not going to pack a diffuser on your trip, at least I don’t. However, diffusing essential oils is something you can do prior to your trip. Oils like oregano, thyme, lavender, rosemary, clove, tea tree, and eucalyptus are all great essential oils to diffuse for immune system support. Each one holds their own therapeutic properties.
I still pack 1 or 2 essential oils or rollerballs on my trips, however the only one I apply to my pulse points and the bottoms of my feet from the above mentioned is the lavender.
