Natural Deodorants For Women + Men That Work: Clean, Nontoxic, Aluminum-Free
I have used many natural deodorants over the years. The most recent deodorant that both my husband and I used was the CRYSTAL liquid roll-on deodorant. It worked for both of us, it didn’t stain white shirts, irritate our skin, it was easy to apply, and cheap. I thought I never needed to find another deodorant for either of us again. That was until CRYSTAL changed the formula for the liquid roll-on and it didn’t work for us anymore. Such a bummer. Thankfully I knew of two great brands that had come out in recent years, but I had yet to try. I also asked my Instagram followers what they were using to see if there was any consensus and there was. Natural Deodorants For Women + Men:

But first, some tidbits.
Antiperspirant VS. Deodorant: Which is Safer?
Antiperspirants are formulated to block sweat from coming out which is why you don’t have any wetness with these. However, sweating is a natural form of detoxing, so we don’t want to block our pores on purpose. You want to release those extra toxins! Also, most antiperspirants use aluminum which we don’t want to purposely put on our body as heavy metals wreak havoc on us.
How long does it take for natural deodorants to work?
With a little transition time, you should not smell with a great working natural deodorant. So if this is your first time transitioning to a natural deodorant, give it time. It WILL work. You just need the overload of previously blocked toxins that tends to smell to come out of you. Read this post on the many ways to detoxify your body. It will help speed up the process.
Also, checkout this cleansing charcoal soap to use in the shower while you transition and help with smell. Charcoal is so great at pulling out toxins which have been blocked by antiperspirants. This clarifying clay soap is another great one to draw out toxins.
My last tidbit to help speed up the process if you are still stinking is to apply deodorant before bed as well (on clean armpits).
Natural Deodorants For Women + Men That Work: Clean, Nontoxic, Aluminum-Free
From the same company of the liquid roll-on that my husband and I previously used, however this is made from 1 ingredient. It’s a mineral salt crystal; the first one made of its kind over 35 years ago. It works. You should not smell if you use it correctly. The reason it may not be for everyone is because it’s a rock and not like regular deodorant. Your skin needs to be wet prior to using it or you have to wet the crystal before applying it.
To Use: Swipe up and down under your armpits a good amount of times (way more than other deodorants) right after you get out of shower while your armpits are still wet. If your armpits are dry, you need to put the crystal under warm water to wet it first and then apply it.
It works, does not stain my husband’s white dress shirts, it is inexpensive and lasts forever as long as you don’t drop and crack it. Don’t tip it upside down either as if it becomes a bit loose it will fall out. That aside, it is a great one and is what my husband now uses. I used it years ago and it worked, I’m just not the biggest fan of the application. Don’t let that stop you from giving it a go though. You might not mind it!
- Salt & Stone Natural Deodorant – Lavender & Sage, Eucalyptus & Cedarwood and Eucalyptus
Lavender & Sage and Eucalyptus & Cedar are long lasting protection deodorants for both women and men. They are formulated with probiotics to help keep you stink free. It’s a creamy, smooth applying, easy to use deodorant that you apply directly to dry skin. It has jojoba oil, vitamin E, sunflower seed oil, and shea butter in it so it really feels good and moisturizing going on.
Lavender & Sage and Eucalyptus & Cedar both have long lasting protection because of the baking soda in them. If you are extra sensitive to baking soda, they also make a sensitive skin formula without any baking soda. This Eucalyptus one is formulated without it, but just know it does not keep you stink free as long. I personally have been sensitive to baking soda deodorants in the past, but the lavender & sage does not irritate me one bit! I do shave my armpits at night though and don’t apply deodorant right after.
The lavender & sage that I am using right now is also the best smelling deodorant I have ever used IMO. I don’t smell the sage as much, but the lavender smells great. The Eucalyptus & Cedar has a heavier pine-tree like smell so male or female, you may want to grab the lavender one if you want a lighter scent.
I really enjoy the rounded application and of course the clean, modern packaging is a bonus for me too. If you grab this one, just apply a little bit. Too heavy of an application gets super cakey and transfers to your shirts. I have not had any experience with this staining shirts so far and most of the reviews that I read said it did not stain their shirts either. With this said, I did come across a couple that said it DID stain their shirts, so I still want to put that out there. They may have just applied too much? Just go lightly with application as I have had zero problems.
- Agent Nateur Deodorant – holi (rose) N°4 Shiva Rose, holi (man) N°5 Unisex, holi (stick) Sensitive
When I asked my Instagram followers what their favorite natural deodorant was, Agent Nateur Shiva Rose was the biggest response. Not surprisingly so as it is a more popular brand in the clean beauty world and loved by many. The only reason I have not tried it out is because of the rose sandalwood scent. However, that magic sandalwood oil in their deodorants is also what is helping prevent odor so it kind of needs it! HA. However, I have heard and read that the scent is subtle and not overpowering so to not let it deter me or possibly you. Plus, their holi (stick) Sensitive has a jasmine woodsy blend which sounds lovely, so Agent Nateur hopefully has something for all.
The popularity, reviews, ratings, and feedback tell us they work. The coconut oil, sunflower butter, avocado butter, and castor oil in them will give us that smooth feeling application. It’s another rounded stick which I think is so comfortable to apply. The biggest thing I would look to in choosing one other than scent preference is that both the Shiva Rose and holi (man) Unisex have baking soda in them. If your armpits are super sensitive to baking soda, I would grab the holi (stick) Sensitive.
N°4 Shiva Rose scent – Rose & Sandalwood
holi (man) N°5 Unisex scent – Rose, vetiver, sandalwood, cistus and cedarwood
Sensitive – floral and woodsy with jasmine, bergamot, and sandalwood oils – zero baking soda
