It’s been a little over 3 months since I’ve been using HigherDOSE’s Red Light Face Mask. Even though I already had the HigherDOSE sauna blanket (My Review Here), I still compared different masks before knowing that the HigherDose red light mask was the one for me. Although it’s still early on, I can tell you I am a fan. While I’ve noticed subtle changes on my face and am excited to see the difference a year out, it’s the calming, mood boosting feeling I get from it as to why I’m really enjoying it. It makes me want to consistently put the mask on. Also, the glow after isn’t bad either.
Red Light Face Mask Therapy Benefits
Red Light Therapy is a wellness tool that doubles as skincare. The gentle red and near-infrared lights mimic low-level wavelengths found in natural sunlight. Those feel-good wavelengths feel extra good in winter when we don’t get as much sunlight.

Before & After
I took a picture one month in and then 3 months in. I forgot to take the initial picture. I made sure it was in my rawest form, both no makeup, not any glowy skincare on it prior, both by the window during the day time, and zero editing. I have noticed a subtle difference in my skin tone on my cheeks; hopefully you see in the pictures somewhat. I notice a bit of lightening overall and some faded marks.

I have an affiliated 15% off HigherDOSE discount code – HERHEALTHYSTYLE15 if you are interested in the red light face mask or the sauna blanket.
How do you use it?
- I recommend wearing it on clean skin without makeup.
- There are adjustable straps that you Velcro around your head.
- You can wear the included goggles, close your eyes, or if you are comfortable keeping your eyes open you can do that too per the manual.
- Press the button on the controller once for 10 minutes or twice for 20 minutes.
- Meditate, lay down, or even move around if your eyes are not sensitive. I lay down and close my eyes when it’s dark out, but during the day I can easily see and move around if I want to. I just tuck the controller in my pants and move about. It feels nice to just give myself the 20 minutes to lay down and relax though. My husband has started to use it too now and has no choice but to relax. His eyes are too sensitive to have them open.
I generally do the 20 minute session and I do it at all times of day. I like doing it in the morning, but it’s also super convenient to use while I’m in HigherDOSE’s infrared sauna blanket in the evening. I’ve been faithful at both lately.
Is it comfortable to wear?
- I think it’s comfortable overall as it’s a fairly flexible mask. I don’t have any other mask to compare it to, but when I was researching, a lot of them looked a lot less comfortable. The adjustable strap helps it fit different head shapes and sizes.
- I found it comfortable (as comfortable as this type of mask can be), but I don’t wear the goggles. My husband on the other hand wears the goggles and it took him a few times to get used to it with the goggles under the mask. Now he doesn’t think about it. So if it’s hard with the the goggles right away, just give it time. Just closing your eyes is an option too.

Do you need to wear the included goggles? Is red light safe for the eyes?
Per the user manual, red light is safe for your eyes. It says that red light is a great way to protect and heal your eyes from damage and strain. It says if you have photosensitivity, then use caution and common sense. I think that’s just good advice overall. Do what feels right for you. My husband finds the light blinding and I don’t as long as it’s during the day. At night it’s more blinding for me. Either way, it’s nice to just close your eyes and relax.
I don’t wear the included goggles, but if you have sensitive eyes like my husband you’ll want to wear the goggles or close your eyes.
How often should you use the HigherDOSE Red Light Face Mask?
It’s personal preference, but the more consistent, the more you’ll feel and see changes. 3-5 times a week seems like the common number of times to do it when I was reading online. I prefer to do it in the morning due to the positive feeling I get from it, but whenever I fit it in my day is great. I did it 3 times a week for 20 minutes for a while (after doing a 10 minute initial test to try it out), but lately I’m doing it closer to 5 times at 20 minutes. It feels extra good now that it’s winter.
How do you clean it?
I clean the mask with just water on a washcloth or towel. I don’t wear makeup with it. If you do use soap, I would make sure it is super super mild, like Dr. Bronner’s baby soap, and still apply it to a cloth first. You can also keep it in the included carrying travel bag during the times you are not using it. I keep it on a table in my bedroom. Update- I now use WaterWipes to clean it (I just save and reuse the wipe for a little less waste.)
Is it worth the cost?
I think if you plan on being consistent with it, it is absolutely worth it due to the many benefits of red light therapy. I love that it’s great for improving both my well-being & my skin and I can do it in the comfort of my home.
If you average 3 times a week for one year (before even using my discount code which saves a chunk) it’s around $2 per use at the time I’m writing this. That second year it’s paid off. If you average 4 times a week for one year, it’s about $1.60 per use. The second year it’s free.
My affiliated 15% off HigherDOSE discount code – HERHEALTHYSTYLE15. It’s also good for the sauna blanket as well.
I did a YouTube Video on it as well:
