It’s getting to that time of year for ice creams and nice creams. “Nice cream” is just the popular term coined for dairy-free ice cream that is generally made with frozen bananas as the base. Frozen bananas are what give it that creamy custard-like consistency we know. The sky is the limit for nice cream variations, but this Banana Almond Butter Chocolate Ice Cream is such a treat.
I recently hosted a party and made this along with mango banana nice cream for dessert options. I thought this one would be the standout winner for them, but my friends loved the mango too! Maybe slightly more? So maybe check that one out as well depending on what you are feeling. This one is richer and more decadent with the almond butter, nuts, and chocolate. Banana Mango is solely fruit and fat free.
I always keep a large bag of frozen bananas in my freezer for smoothies as well as ice cream. I peel and freeze whole bananas when they are spotty and really ripe. Ripe bananas make for a sweeter, better tasting nice cream.
Banana Almond Butter Chocolate Ice Cream
I think the easiest way to make banana nice cream is in the food processor. However, if you don’t have a food processor, you can absolutely use a high speed blender with a tamper to help it along. Either way, let the frozen sliced bananas thaw out for about 5 minutes prior to processing. You can also add in an extra splash of homemade almond milk or clean ingredient store bought for ease of blending as well.
Serves 4-5 – I store in this freezer container.
Ingredients:
- 5 frozen bananas, sliced
- 2 TBSP almond butter (almonds as only ingredient), more if desired
- 2 TBSP raw almonds or raw walnuts, more if desired
- 1-2 TBSP cacao nibs, I use Wilderness Poets brand – code RIANE10 saves $10 off $49+
- optional, 2 TBSP up to 1/4 cup almond milk if your bananas are extra frozen or using a blender – it also hides the banana a bit more
Instructions:
Allow the sliced frozen bananas to unthaw for around 10 minutes to make it easier to blend. Add everything to your food processor or blender. Pulse and blend until thick and creamy. Top with optional extra nuts or cacao nibs. ENJOY! Video of me making it below.
