Starting your day off right makes all the difference in your day ahead. It can take your mundane or hectic weeks and change the way you view them. Even when life is crazy and throws you curveballs, you can hopefully think of each day as a fresh new start. The 5 morning habits below can shift your morning mood and make all the difference in your life. Hopefully you won’t be living for the weekends or vacations once you start applying them.

5 Morning Habits
- Get up around the same time each day.
This first step sets you up for creating a good morning routine to begin with. Pick a time that allows you to not be so rushed in the morning, so that you are able to start out on a good note. Nothing is worse than waking up to an alarm and rushing like a maniac since you did not give yourself enough time to start the day. This also means you should try to get to bed around the same time each night. Figure out how much sleep you need and then try to give yourself this allotted time. Your body gets in a good rhythm when it’s consistently getting similar amounts of sleep.
This is all easier said than done, but if you can do it the majority of the time, your body & mind will thank you. I know for myself, I feel so off when I go to bed really late since it’s a trickle down effect for my morning and day ahead. Once in awhile it’s more than fine (it can even be fun) and I can easily adapt, but not for my norm. I also find I need to get off the computer or my phone for at least an hour prior to going to bed otherwise my mind takes forever to shut off once I’m in bed – resulting in less sleep.
2. Hydrate with lemon water upon waking.
Drinking water first thing in the morning hydrates and revitalizes you. Additionally, adding fresh squeezed lemon to your water supports your liver and helps flush out toxins. It’s a simple thing you can do for your body first thing in the morning. You could also add in fresh ginger root too. If you feel yucky or nauseous from drinking lemon water, you may be stirring up too many toxins in your body. Ginger or ginger/honey is a good substitute during these times. If you prefer hot water some days, just let the water cool off some before adding in lemon or raw honey so that the healing enzymes of both stay in tact.

3. Move your body.
Stretch, go for a walk, do yoga, jump on a rebounder, whatever you can do with the time you have. Even if it’s 5 minutes, it will help set you up for the rest of your day. Moving your body helps get you energized, get focused, boosts your mood, and helps you make healthier decisions throughout your day. It’s an added bonus if you are able to move outside, since you are getting the benefits of fresh air.
4. Meditate or take a pause & Breathe
Whether it’s 5 or 20 minutes of meditation, or just taking the time to pause and breathe deeply or focus on your breath for a few moments, it will help calm you. This will put your mind in a more peaceful & clear state.
I like to listen to meditation or relaxing music many mornings and especially when I am meditating. It really helps put me in a calming state.

5. Practice Gratitude.
Think of a few things you are grateful for. Say it to yourself or out loud, I am thankful……. I am grateful….. You will often find yourself grinning without even trying. Feeling grateful and thankful will help start your mindset off in a positive way for the day. I know it does for me.
My hope is that by gradually incorporating these 5 morning habits,
you will start to feel the positive changes.
Grateful you are here! Xx Riane
